It is that time of year again – time to Boss up and take on October with force and intention.
Two years ago a friend of mine convinced me to participate in something called “Boss October” which was something started by the Peloton instructor Ally Love. The overall concept is to “reclaim your power and fill yourself up before the months where we give so much”. There are three main focuses to “Boss October”:
- Give up a luxury item
- Prioritize health & fitness
- Be kind to yourself
The first year I gave up alcohol, made all my needed doctor appointments for the year, and rode 250 miles on my bike. The second year, I did something similar but upped my mileage to 300 miles, and added in taking time to read a book. On November 1st, I felt great and was well prepared for the crazy holiday season.
This year I have decided to change it up a bit. I am sticking with giving up alcohol as a luxury item but I am focusing this year on two new things for health & fitness:
- Proper stretching and mobility (stretching before each workout as well as taking time to also work through specific mobility classes too
- Return to the basics of boxing by doing shadowboxing at least two times a week to regain better form
Sometimes you need to sow down first before going faster and that is what I am going to focus on this month by focusing the stretching/basics.
I am quite excited to see where the month takes me!
