They say after someone dies the “firsts” are often difficult. Holidays, anniversaries, birthdays, etc.
I generally did not really have a hard time but that is not the case today. Today would have been my dad’s birthday if he were still alive. My daughter and I were with him last year on his birthday which was a true gift.
In honor of his birthday I thought I would share a few photos from years past.
He taught me to appreciate nature and to be out in nature whenever we could.
He loved hunting and tried to make use of as much of whatever he killed (hence the bear paw lamps as well as the deer foot “bracket or hangers” as seen below). While some kids had a garage full of bikes, balls, and cars, we often would have some sort of animal hanging up ready to be skinned. (you an see a young me with the bear he shot hanging in the garage)
He loved golfing and it was a true honor to play the last 18 holes with him and my sons all together.
He loved cherry chip cake for his birthday, and because of that I will make one today as well.
Eventhough today is harder than I expected – I am thankful for all he taught/shared with me. Thanks dad!

What a beautiful tribute to your dad, Jen! I am having a hard day today, too, but I am trying to focus on all the great memories we have right to the end. I am having a Happy Hour today with 12 of our good friends and I am serving , Yellow Tail, Cheetos, pretzels, and Cherry chip cake with his last golf ball on top! Sounds like your dad, right? We have a lot to thank him for! ❤️
