All these crazy commercials and talk about the new Droid phone makes me smile. I think back about all the proposed “Apple x killers (x = Mac, Newton, iPod, iPhone) and what makes me smile is there is no third party Apple product killer and I do not see any in the foreseeable future.
The only real threat that these products have/had is actually Apple itself. Either Apple will kill it internally (Newton) or will create something bigger and better that will replace it’s own product.
So even though I enjoyed the Droid commercials – it all sounded a bit familiar (recently with the “iPod killer” Zune) – which come on, who knows someone that has one and has got you so excited you had to have one?
Companies may try and copy, add new functionality that people want…but when it comes down to it, there is just something about those Apple products…
Have a great weekend!
Believe it or not, there are some days when I do not feel like watching Wall-E. My son Evan does not seem to agree with me, but that is ok because he has an iTeddy The iTeddy is like a iPod within a stuffed animal. It hold music, videos, and pictures and allows Evan to quietly enjoy what he wants to watch on trips or whenever he wants to watch movies, listen to music (before bed), or to look at family pictures. iTeddy charges by USB, comes with a 1 gig memory stick to start with, and has a wonderful lock button so Evan’s manic button pressing does not stop the media and produce a meltdown. This is definitely cool!
For years I have been talking about and dreaming of an iPhone. Up until this morning I figured Apple would release a simple entry level phone that would be fun for the same people who are likely to buy an iPod Shuffle or an iPod Nano. Little did I know, the new iPhone would be so darn cool! I love my Blackberry 8700, but the iPhone with it’s awesome design and amazing features is exactly what I want. Will I buy it when it comes out? It will be hard not to, but if I can hold out, I will for the revision. Nice work Apple Inc!
I came across an awesome HOWTO on getting linux and games on your iPod. Now if I just had a color screen iPod (I have gen 2).
On another note, WordPress.com now offers “VIP Hosting” which would be a great option for a few projects I am working on. Great job Automattic!

While spending the long weekend at my not in-laws, we took Triscuit to her foster parents’ house to hang out with their two greyhounds. When we picked up Triscuit yesterday Triscuit’s foster parents had a great story to share. Apparently they have a neighbor who likes to play their radio so loud that the commercials vibrate through the walls of the neighboring homes. Triscuit’s foster parents have tried asking the loud neighbors to keep it down and have even had to call the police. The neighbors, after the police came, threats were made, and the radio continued to blare. After not being able to handle it anymore, the foster parents decided to come up with a plan…to hack their iTrip to boost the signal so they could broadcast silence. On Sunday, after hacking the iTrip, they figured out what radio station the neighbors were listening to and set the iPod to broadcast silence on that station (on their neighbor’s loud radio). To confuse the neighbors, they would broadcast the silence in intervals. Of course, this will most likely not quiet the neighbors forever, but now they can have some fun. Ahh the joys of having neighbors!

After months of waiting, Apple announced the MacBook in both white and black. As soon as I saw the black, I flashed back to my beloved Pismo. I will be taking a trip to one of the local Apple Stores to check these out in the next few days because I am curious about the glossy display and the new sunken keyboard. My first thoughts: this is a great little notebook for someone who: would like a notebook that is not as expensive as the Mac Book Pro, be able to boot Windows and Mac OS X, have a built-in iSight, and look pretty bad ass with a black Apple portable to go with their black iPod. Huh, maybe I do want one. 😉
