Summers seem most people’s favorite times of the year because of vacations, being outside, etc and while I generally do not hate summers – I also am not a fan. You can keep the heat, summer vacations, and all of that because my favorite time of the year is quickly approaching…fall. Fall to me means more routine (try living with a teacher when you are not on their schedule in the summer), college and professional football, fall golf (I have not been out since April…gasp), and cooler temperatures.
This summer has been hell on wheels for me, but through all of the craziness this summer – I walk away with so much more experience, knowledge, and confidence.
Hopefully the fall will also bring me back to more regular posting as well.
Taking vacation sounds nice to most but to me it is never really been enjoyable. The work pile up when I get home is always out of control and I end up feeling like I do now: run down, overwhelmed, and unable to catch up. What is the trick to coming back to a less stressful environment after taking a few days off? I am all ears!
I spent the weekend relaxing up in the North Woods of Wisconsin in St. Germain where the pace of life is much different than here in Chicago. We enjoyed time with some of our friends who went with us, the Beef-a-rama, and some very scenic drives. I wish I had my phone with me while checking into the hotel because there was a great sign behind the registration desk “Check-in is at 3pm. Don’t Even ask” (with a picture of a revolver before “Don’t even ask”. I loved it. I also learned the locals are not huge Illinois loves. They refer to us as “FIBs” (F***ing Illinois Bastards)…that was pleasant. But – for the most part we had a great time. I am kicking myself for not going fishing while I was there, but I will definitely be ready to spend some serious time on the lake next year. If you are looking for a great time – check out St. Germain. This is a great spot to relax and enjoy the simpler things in life.
For the first time in over 10 years – A, E, and I took a week and went on vacation. We usually take weekend trips to see family but have never taken anything longer than a weekend trip (vacation) together…until last week. We flew down to Florida to see some of my family and then off to Walt Disney World where we sent seven days at the for main parks (Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney Studios, and the Animal Kingdom). The trip was great except for the fact that I sprained my right big toe on day two and ended up seeing most of Disney in a wheel chair. (I would tell you how I sprained it, but you would never believe me.) I never realized how much you need your big toe for walking/balance.
I have to say – I had a whole new appreciation for Disney this time around and I am excited to go back. A big thanks to A’s aunt and father for everything 😉
Hopefully next week after the 4th of July, things will settle down a bit so I can get back to regular blogging!
