Call for All PSU Friends to Gather…

I received a long awaited phone call yesterday – from one of my favorite people of all time: Amy G (now Amy M after getting married). We had not spoken for some time – but it was great to catch up. Amy was Amy’s (my Amy) roommate freshman and sophmore year. Not only did we catch up and talk about our great times at Penn State – we decided that it would be great if we could get together again back at Penn State during the Penn State Blue and White game (annual spring scrimmage) on April 25th. I am… Read More »

The Story of My Life – Told in the Header

Posted by: Jennifer Zelazny | 0 Comments

For the last few versions of Jappler.com – I have had images in the header arranged in a way to tell a story. My roots. This picture was taken out of my car on the road my parents live in NY. My home. Old Main on the Penn State campus. I was destined to go to Penn State and it was my #1 goal since I was 3 years old (besides a few months in 7th grade when my #1 goal was to beat Super Mario Brothers) I spent a lot of time sitting on the front steps reading, people… Read More »

People's Effort Part 2

Posted by: Jennifer Zelazny | 2 Comments

Last night we got hit with 4 inches or so of snow. Thankfully either the new gas or my dad cleaning the spark plug over the weekend worked…and the snowblower started up like a champ. As I finished up my driveway I noticed the neighbor that left the small strip of snow next to me the last snowfall – was out shoveling. I glanced over at him and turned the snowblower the opposite way and did the other neighbor’s entire sidewalk. When I finished with that, I looked at Amy and asked her if she thought I should do the… Read More »

People's Effort…

Sometimes I just do not get people’s effort. Some people make an effort to help out the elderly, smile, say hello, or donate to charities – all of these take little effort but go along way. Then – there are the people who seem to go out of their way not to look you in the eye, not acknowledge you, and are generally miserable. Both types of people make some sort of effort – but in opposite ways. While I may not be an optimist all the time – I will say hello to anyone and when given the chance… Read More »

Not a Late Night at All!

Posted by: Jennifer Zelazny | 0 Comments

I was ready to spend my entire evening and early morning glued to to TV on election night as there would surely be some sort of controversy with voting – but the winner was clear..all before 11pm CST. I thought both Obama and McCain gave great speeches. Seeing McCain give his speech was like seeing the old MacCain I could have voted for in 2000. I thought Obama’ speech was perfect. He is a strong, confident, intelligent force and I hope good things will come of the next four years. All in all – I was happy to see both… Read More »

How Late Will I Be Up Tonight?

Posted by: Jennifer Zelazny | 0 Comments

Each year I enjoy staying up as late as I can so I can go to bed knowing who got elected. The past two elections have made this a little difficult, but I am hoping this year to make it until Barrack gives either speech at Grant Park in downtown Chicago. I hope to go to bed happy this year…at a decent time! Regardless of who wins, this is an exciting day. I look forward to seeing how many people actually vote, what the voting issues were, and how the voting process will change (or most likely not change) in… Read More »

The Vote: 2008

Posted by: Jennifer Zelazny | 2 Comments

I remember voting in 1996 – my first ever Presidential election. Back in those days I attended Young Republican meetings at Penn State and I voted for Bob Dole. The next two elections I voted for the democrats that ran and even attended my first rally (for Al Gore) in Daley Plaza with Ben and I have to say it was pretty awesome. I would have considered voting for McCain in 2000 – I thought he was a stronger candidate than Bush, but others disagreed with me. This election is huge. I was really hoping Hillary Clinton would be the… Read More »

Kelly's Dress

Not everyday does one of your friends end up on a designer’s web site. My friends Kelly and Doug got married back in June and everyone thought Kelly’s dress was amazing. Apparently the designer agreed so they posted her wedding picture on their company web site so now everyone can see how amazing she looked. Doug – you did not look too bad either 😉

Generation Social

Posted by: Jennifer Zelazny | 0 Comments

As a history major – I tend to look at everything and find trends, think about what historians will write about our time, and all kinds of fun things that drive Amy crazy. The other day while I was thinking about playing Super Mario 3 on my Wii, I thought about the definition of being social (“interactions between people”) and then thought that my son Evan’s generation will most likely view our generation as very unsocial. We wrote letters that took days to deliver, interacted with people very limitedly, played games by ourselves, and worked independently. Our definition of communication… Read More »

Seven Years Earlier…

Posted by: Jennifer Zelazny | 0 Comments

It is hard to believe it was seven years ago today that the US was attacked. I do not think I will ever forget that day. I was working downtown back then – in an office building a block away from the Sears Tower. We did not have any TVs in our office and the only way I found out about what was going on was after chatting with one of my high school friends – she called me and told me what happened in New York City. I had no idea what was going on…I just could not picture… Read More »
