I stumbled on this sweet Retro Mac OS WordPress theme and had to pass the link on to others. Rock on!

.mac update.

Serenity now - Apple has updated their .Mac service. There are some good updates…and some bad. The good: the Web Gallery looks pretty sweet. The bad: .Mac users can now send and receive email attachments up to 20mb. Ugh…nothing drives me more crazy than getting large email attachments. What is large? For me it is anything over 3mb. How to completely drive me insane? Send me your billboard sized photos that total over 3mb. On the upside of the .Mac improvements, I am very excited about the additional space - 10gig as well as Junk Mail via their webmail app - still no filters, but I am almost ready to give up. Looks like I will stay on for another year of the .Mac tax.

a week or so later with the iPhone.

I have had my iPhone for over a week now and am still really excited about it. After going on a week long car trip - I have to say I really enjoyed having the camera in the phone to take quick pictures (something I did not have with my BlackBerry 8700c), I organized my overcrowded personal email inbox somewhere in the middle of Ohio while Amy was driving, sent some of my pictures that I took of my son Evan to his grandparents while we were on the road, mapped our route with turn by turn directions, and amazed my grandparents with the amazing UI. I am still very excited about my iPhone!

I finally did it, I had to…I bought an iPhone and I have loved every minute of owning it. I had an appointment the second day I owned it and the person I met with wanted to “zoom the pictures like the commercials”. I also now have the ability to carry around tons of pictures and movies of my son, as well as some of my favorite Curb Your Enthusiasm so I can watch my favorite show while waiting instead of reading some lame magazine. Sure, the camera is not great, but it beats mine on my old Blackberry (there was none) - and the user interface is absolutely fabulous. Automatically detecting when I flip the iPhone over to change my view with music, pictures, etc is wonderful. It has a great weight and I am quite excited about it! Sure I miss hearing the Price is Right theme song when Amy calls, but I cannot imagine it will be too long before we can easily switch ring tones. Great work Apple!

Something I saw that might be of interest: A visual representation of Apple’s products. Brings me back…

safari on windows xp.

As a web developer, new browser releases both excite me and scare me. When I heard about Safari coming out for the PC (Beta available to download) I got pretty excited. I really like the speed of Safari on the Mac and was eager to see how it would perform on the PC.

For quality assurance testing, I have found if I can get everything to work in Safari - it is only a few steps, at most, to get everything working in my core browsers (IE 6, IE 7, Safari 2+, Firefox 1.5, Firefox 2+) so I am eager to add Safari 3 into the mix. At first glance it was odd seeing the Safari icon on the Windows desktop, and the menu bar items within the browser window, but I have to say - all the sites rendered beautifully - finally for all those PC users. I am excited to see how this develops - good work Apple!

new apple.com - initial thoughts.

After a long showing - the pin strip tabs are out and the brushed metal - grey gradient is in (just a shade or two darker than the active jappler.com nav). My initial thought: the nav bar is too tall - but as soon as I looked at the way to the right and saw the search box, I realized it had to be that height to accommodate the search box with ample spacing. I looked through the site some more and so far - everything looks pretty good.

I did find a few problem areas with their layout/CSS, but I am sure they will address those soon (PS family member that does not know or understand what I really do - this is the type of thing I get contacted about to fix for companies) - especially since they showed up on Safari at first glance. I am sure their web team worked very hard on the new layout/functionality and it shows. I think for the first time in a few years the site feels very cohesive and not so much “stuck in … [more]
