I have implemented these on a few web sites now for my clients and have been very happy with the results. If you are using WordPress, you can also use to dynamically generate the drop down menus. The only issue I see with SoS menus is that there is no delay after you mouse out of the menu. It is a pet peeve of mine - if my mouse moves off of a menu for even a millisecond, it closes. Other than that, it looks cool, and I may start using it, though WordPress and Symfony come first.
I hear you - I am actually not a huge fan of drop down menus at all, but I liked providing something that was lightweight and used mostly CSS.
